Ostrog monastery is one of the holiest Christian places which year-round attracts crowds of pilgrims from all over the world. The monastery is in the 2-hour drive from the coast inland, and the narrow serpentine ascent to Ostrog will stick to your memory for a long time. The monastery itself is not built, but hewn out of the mountain, by the top its summit at an altitude of 900 meters above sea level. Its main sanctuary is the relics of Saint Basil of Ostrog, a miracle-worker and healer. Every year Hundreds of thousands of believers ascend to the Saint Basil to ask for his help. In the monastery people lead a “Book of Miracles”, in which people write about what happened to them after visiting the monastery.
